Znia

Laz and I lay side by side, facing each other but not exchanging words, and it was the most comforting and unnerving thing I’d experienced in a long time. He let out a long exhale then rolled on his back. He reached for me and traced his fingertips up and down my leg.

“Are you okay?” I asked quietly.

“Yeah. I’m good.” He looked at me. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah.” I smiled at the concern etched on his face. “Why wouldn’t I be okay?”

“Why wouldn’t I be okay?” he countered.

“You broke your celibacy. I figured it could be confusing or something and now we’re just sitting in silence.”

“Yeah. Well, I just told you I wanted you to be my girlfriend, wife, and mother to my children.” He gave me a soft smile and shook his head. “I guess my head is just a lot of places right now.”

“Laz, I’m not going to hold you to anything you said while you were buried inside of me after a nearly four-year dry spell.”

I rolled closer to him and laid on my stomach. I put my hands on his chest and propped my face on them to look up at him. He adjusted how he was lying and went back to tracing me.

“I like you, Z,” he confessed.

“I like you too.”

“Good.” He looked down at me. “Because I want to have you like this again.”

“Yeah?” I kissed his stomach.

“Yeah.” Laz leaned down and kissed my forehead so softly my eyes fluttered shut.

Being with him was different. He was always so soft with me like he thought I was breakable. He treated me with a level of respect that was interesting and it was otherworldly to have sex with him. I didn’t think I’d ever been with someone who listened to me or my body the way he had. I’d walked him through what I liked when it came to head once and he seemingly perfected it.

I’d expected him to ask me to walk him through the sex portion too, but he hadn’t. He’d found my spot all on his own and he worked that mothafucka like it was second nature until I’d seen stars behind my eyes.

He got up afterwards and cleaned me up then lay beside me. I wasn’t sure what I thought would happen but having Laz in bed with me, looking at me like I amazed him, was in character for him.

I liked the way he treated me and I wanted to knock that bitch who had broken his heart out. The fact that she’d mistreated a man who was as sweet, thoughtful, and smart as Laz. She’d fumbled him and in the process messed with his confidence. That shit irritated me because he deserved to be confident. He had a degree, a successful career where he made good money, and the sex game was splendid. There were men out here who were none of those things and acted like the sun rose and set on their asses. That blew my mind.

Lazarus blew my mind.
